Mauricio Pochettino’s lack of trophies could affect his Job Employement

talksport: Danny Murphy insists the world’s biggest clubs will be wary of employing Mauricio Pochettino due to his lack of silverware.

The Argentine coach failed to win a trophy during his five-year spell in charge of Tottenham, which ended last November.

Pochettino is reportedly the first-choice managerial target for Newcastle’s proposed Saudi owners, while he has been linked to the Manchester United job in the past.

Despite his track record of drastically improving players, like Harry Kane and Dele Alli, former Liverpool midfielder Muprhy believes clubs will judge him on his winners’ medals.

He told talkSPORT: “I was one of his biggest fans.

“How he brought players forward and coached them to get better and he wasn’t always in the moment of, ‘we have to win or else’.

“He developed players and the team really quickly and brilliantly.

Jose Mourinho (pictured) replaced Mauricio Pochettino as Tottenham boss last November

“The problem he’s got is the big, big clubs who desperately want success yesterday, Tottenham being one of them when they brought [Jose] Mourinho in, usually go down the route of who is tried and tested.

“It’s the same with players. If you want success quickly, you need the best. When Liverpool brought in [Rafa] Benitez [in 2004], his biggest attribute was that he’d won the league in Spain and Liverpool wanted to win the league in England.

“Tottenham want silverware, the fans want silverware, they bring in Mourinho and paid the earth for it because everywhere he’s gone he’s won silverware.

“Pochettino hasn’t, so he needs a club who are a bit like him, which is progressive, on the way up, something that’s going to take a bit of time.

“Newcastle have been talked about, I understand that. But if Newcastle’s owners have got that much money and they want success now, would you give [the job] to Pochettino? He’s never won a trophy.”

Pochettino came close to silverware with Tottenham on two occasions when they lost in League Cup and Champions League finals to Chelsea and Liverpool, respectively.

He was indeed a good coach. He made Alli a wonderful player also some players like Kane, even Lucas Moura was there too although he was a good player at PSG before his move. Son also was a good player…I can’t say it was all the fault of the coach if they didn’t get a major trophy but the players too should be considered. Although they played absolutely well too. Looking at the performance of pochetino at Spurs…every club will want to sign him. He is a good coach indeed.

He’s a gud coach but I think he hasn’t developed dat big club mentality of always aiming fr trophies.. he’s always comfortable with getting close to winning trophies.

I don’t think so. Pochettino is a good coach and the inability of him signing players of his choiced affected his trophy drought seasons with Totteham. I remember Pochetino saying that he isn’t in charge of transfers at Tottenham. If giving the money and freedom to identify players of his choice then he will build a team capable of winning trophies.

He did well when he was at Tottenham, he got sacked not because he didn’t win them a trophy but because Tottenham players were under performing, so i don’t think his lack of trophy winning will affect his appointments

I still believe Newcastle will sign him after the change of ownership of the club. It wont matter whether he has won trophies or not, he’s a good coach that can take his team higher.

Mauricio Pochettino did an almost excellent job with Tottenham Hotspur but the club was more interested in building a team that can qualify for Champions League.
He transformed the team and lead them to historic UCL finals, developed a lot of players and gave them a place in top4.
