metro: Arsenal are in the race to sign Marcelo as the Brazilian left-back has asked to leave Real Madrid, according to reports in Spain.
The 31-year-old has spent 13 seasons at Madrid, winning four La Liga titles and the Champions League four times. But his place in Zinedine Zidane’s side is now under threat after Madrid completed the signing of French left-back Ferland Mendy in a £47 million deal from Lyon earlier this summer.
According to Sport, Marcelo wants to leave Madrid this summer having received several offers and his representatives are in talks with the Spanish club’s president Florentino Perez.
The report claims that Arsenal are among the teams who have registered their interest in Marcelo, but the Gunners face strong competition. Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus and AC Milan have also made Marcelo aware of their interest and he is now considering his options.
Marcelo is currently on holiday after he was surprisingly dropped from Brazil’s squad for their Copa America campaign. Arsenal, meanwhile, are looking to strengthen their defensive options ahead of the new season and are also in talks with Celtic over a deal for their left-back Kieran Tierney.
