dailystar: Tielemans, 22, spent the second half of last season on loan at Leicester. The Belgian certainly impressed in his time at the King Power, becoming a key player under Brendan Rodgers and ultimately leading the Foxes to bid £36m for his full-time services.
And Tielemans recently announcing that it is ‘unlikely’ he will return to Ligue 1 looked to be a huge boost for Rodgers and co.
However, Belgian outlet DH.be claim United have matched Leicester’s £36m bid for the player.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is targeting a new central midfielder amid reports linking Paul Pogba with a move away from Old Trafford.
Pogba all but confirmed he will be leaving United over the weekend, telling reporters in Tokyo: “After this season and all that has happened, and it was my best season, I think it might be a good time for me to to take up a new challenge elsewhere.
“I think about that: a new challenge elsewhere.”
Real Madrid, who recently completed the £130m signing of Eden Hazard from Chelsea, and Juventus are reportedly frontrunners in the race to sign Pogba.
United are not the only Premier League outfit rumoured to be rivalling Leicester for Tielemans, nevertheless.
Manchester City and Tottenham, who might need to replace wantaway midfield maestro Christian Eriksen this summer, have also been linked with a move for him.
One advantage Leicester could have in the battle for Tieleman’s signature is Adrien Silva, who went in the opposite direction on loan when the former moved to England.
It is believed Monaco, desperately in need of a rebuild after narrowly avoiding relegation in Ligue 1 last term, could be attracted by the proposition of a player-plus-cash deal involving Silva.
When quizzed on whether Leicester will sign Tielemans permanently towards the end of the season, Foxes boss Rodgers said: “I’m not sure. I think there will be dialogue between both clubs.
“He’s clearly a player we would like to work with but I can’t really add much more to that.
“I can understand the supporters will like to watch a young player like that and I’m sure the club will do everything they possibly can to bring him in.”
