dailymail: Luis Suarez has conceded the LaLiga title to Real Madrid, admitting it is now ‘almost impossible’ for Barcelona to catch them.
Barcelona sit four points behind their fierce rivals with just two matches of the season remaining and it would take a miracle from here to prevent Real winning their first title since 2016-17.
Zinedine Zidane’s team face fifth-place Villarreal on Thursday night in their penultimate fixture before a visit to relegation strugglers Leganes on Sunday.
Barcelona, meanwhile, host Osasuna on Thursday before concluding their season with a visit to Alaves.
And Suarez admitted it is highly unlikely they’ll win a third consecutive league title having seen their form stutter since the restart with costly draws against Sevilla, Celta Vigo and Atletico Madrid.
He told Diario Sport: ‘If you have to be honest, the league is almost impossible.
‘It is clear that the game against Sevilla [a goalless draw] is a game that makes things very difficult for you. We had options to get ahead.
‘That day was important but in Vigo [a 2-2 draw] it was key. We lost our great opportunity.
‘If we had beaten Celta, we would have been better off against Atletico. The blow was in Vigo, the goal in the last minute from [Iago] Aspas. It hurt.
‘Now we have to finish well and go for the Champions League.’
Uruguayan striker Suarez, 33, has scored four times since football in Spain returned following the Covid-19 pandemic but it doesn’t look like being enough for Quique Setien and his team.
‘In LaLiga, you have to be self-critical: we let it escape ourselves. We are aware that we depended on ourselves and not look for any excuse,’ Suarez told Mundo Deportivo.
‘Now, for our pride and for the prestige of Barca, we have to win the two remaining games and then focus squarely on the title we can fight for, which is the Champions League.
‘If those of us on the team can perform at the level of why we are in this club, we can beat anyone. A failure in a match can be expensive.
‘That is why we have to be very vigilant and we need everyone to be able to get the Champions League.’
Barcelona are set to play Napoli on August 8 in the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie with the score tied 1-1 from the first game in February.
