dailystar: Rumours have been circulating that Rakitic could leave the Nou Camp this summer after five years at the club.
The Croatia international was one of the players blamed as Barcelona crashed out of the Champions League to Liverpool at the semi-final stage after leading 3-0 from the first leg.
And the 31-year-old has been linked with a move to Inter Milan and Manchester United in recent days as speculation about his future at the club intensifies.
But, according to Spanish publication Dario GOL, Rakitic may actually want to leave Barcelona – because of Messi.
The report suggests that the midfielder has told his Croatia team-mate Luka Modric that the team would be in a much better state if the Argentina superstar stopped his endless nose poking.
It is rumoured that Messi has a big say in which players are signed and which ones are sold at the club, while also giving advice on team selection.
Barcelona are expected to freshen up their squad with several new faces this summer with the likes of Antoine Griezmann and Matthijs de Ligt linked with big money moves.
One player who has already agreed to join is Ajax midfielder Frenkie de Jong, however.
According to the report, Rakitic believes that Messi convinced the Catalans into signing the 22-year-old and wants him to play regularly next season in his position.
Rakitic has helped the club win four La Liga titles and one Champions League during his time at the Nou Camp but his position is looking more and more unstable.
He has refused to be drawn on speculation about him leaving the club in recent weeks, insisting that he is happy to remain.
Asked about a move to Inter this summer, Rakitic told Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo: “I cannot explain where this information comes from.
“I have great respect for all the teams, and Inter is a very important club that I faced this year in the Champions League.
“Some of my national team team-mates play for them, but I am right now where I want to be.
“If they are thinking of me, it is because my performances are positive, but I am happy at Barcelona. My family is also very well and I have no other thoughts.”
Barcelona take on Valencia in the Copa del Rey final on Saturday as they look to win the domestic double once again.
