sportbible: Lionel Messi and Barcelona have supposedly begun talks over a new contract for the Argentine. Talks have started at Messi’s current wages of over £1 million a week.
Arguably the greatest football player of all time is ready to put his name on the dotted line to stay at Barcelona for another two years. Messi, now 32, has been at Barcelona since July 1st 2000, when he joined as 13-year-old boy.
Messi is currently on a wage that when converted, equals out to £1.15 million a week from Barcelona in the form of a base salary. This doesn’t include his image rights and bonuses however, which currently adds up to a total of £1.6 million a week.

It will be a new two-year deal with Messi having the option at the end of each season to extend it beyond this point.
Details of Messi’s wages were revealed by Football Leaks in 2018, where they stated that the forward’s basic wages per year was £60.2 million, with his yearly wage packet coming in at £83.2 million.
Fans have started to discuss the eventual retirement of Messi despite his current incredible season of 21 goals and 14 assists in 25 games in La Liga. The Argentine who turns 33 this week has already started people talking about who could be the ‘next Lionel Messi’. These players include Paulo Dybala, Lautaro Martinez and current wonderkid, Thiago Almada of Velez.
He’s 18 years old, Argentinian and being scouted by Manchester City. Thiago Almada, remember the name 😏

However, regardless of Messi ageing, his output is still definitely good enough to be worth the insane money he will receive if this contract is signed. As it seems that perhaps the greatest player of all time could finish his career by hanging up his boots at the Camp Nou, if his current deal is extended.
