dailystar: Fabio Capello has gone someway to explain how Ronaldo was both his best and worst player at Real Madrid.
The Italian manager managed the Bernabeu outfit on two separate occasions, winning the league in both spells.
The second stint came in 2006, with Real possessing the likes of David Beckham, Raul and Roberto Carlos.
But they also had the man dubbed O Fenomeno, Ronaldo Nazario.
The Brazilian will go down history as one of the best strikers the game has ever seen, scoring goals for the likes of Real, Barcelona and Inter Milan.
However, not everyone was convinced – including his then-manager at the Bernabeu.
“The greatest talent I ever coaches was Ronaldo,” Capello told Sky Sport.
“But at the same time he was the player who created the most problems for me in the dressing room.
“He used to throw parties and do everything.
“Once [Ruud] Van Nistelrooy said to me ‘coach, the dressing room smells like alcohol’.
“Then Ronaldo went to Milan and we started to win, but if we’re talking about talent then he was the greatest, without a doubt.”
Capello’s time at Real was shortlived, despite winning La Liga.
The former Juventus boss was sacked not long after celebrating their league victory with club officials wanting someone with more flair to take the Galactico-era side forward.
And initially, it worked under Bernd Schuster, who also landed the league title.
But they would taste victory in La Liga for another four years and have won the league just once since then.
As for Ronaldo, his trophy-hauling came with Brazil – where they won two World Cups with him leading the lines.
In 98 appearances, he scored 62 times for his country.
It helped them land the Copa America twice as well as the Confederations Cup in 1997.
Ronaldo’s time at Real Madrid came close to Capello’s when he left Spain for AC Milan and in his departure speech he purposely left his manager out.
He said at the time: “I would like to thank the fans who’ve supported me all the time and thank all the teammates that I’ve had here and all the coaches I’ve had – except one.”
