Cristiano Ronaldo injury raise concerns, ‘Fans scared’

dailystar: It was a frustrating night for the five-time Ballon d’Or winner but he may just be pleased to come away from the clash unscathed.

The Juventus superstar, 33, has enjoyed a stellar first season in Italy and his team have already all but sealed yet another Serie A title.

And the Italian champions are also looking good in the Champions League after a stunning Ronaldo hat-trick helped dump out Atletico Madrid in the last-16.

Juventus will next play Ajax in the quarter-final before last week’s draw set up a possible meeting with Manchester City in the semi-final.

Ronaldo is expected to compete for Portugal during their Euro 2020 qualifying campaign after making first appearance since last summer’s World Cup in Russia.

But he was unable to mastermind another piece of brilliance against the Ukrainians despite coming close to opening the deadlock on a couple of occasions.

And Ronaldo risked injury early on in the 0-0 draw when seemingly twisting his ankle while controlling a routine pass.

The former Real Madrid and Manchester United legend received possession in the Ukraine half but had to slide to keep it away from a challenge.

Ronaldo’s injury scare came after:

  • World Cup winner made his prediction for Juventus vs Ajax tie
  • Paulo Dybala was linked with this Premier League club
  • Xavi made Messi and Ronaldo revelation

And as he did so, he seemed to drag his left foot in the turf.

Ronaldo went down clutching his foot and could be seen in clear pain but continued to play on. And the forward managed to finish the full 90 minutes in Lisbon.

It is not clear whether he will be available to face Serbia in Portugal’s next game on Monday night.

After the international break, Juventus are back in Serie A action against Empoli, Cagliari, and AC Milan before they travel to Amsterdam to face Ajax.

Elsewhere, Lionel Messi also returned to international action but Argentina suffered a 3-1 defeat to Venezuela in Madrid.

The Barcelona star was also subject to concerns after reportedly suffering a pelvic injury.

It remains to be seen whether his injury is anything serious.
