metro: The 28-year-old, who was surprisingly snubbed from the PFA Team of the Year despite a phenomenal season, is stalling on signing a contract extension and is widely expected to leave in the summer.
Zinedine Zidane has made Hazard one of his priority signings once the window reopens as he looks to find an heir to Cristiano Ronaldo, who was not adequately replaced last season.
Now The Sun report that Chelsea have told Hazard’s representatives that he can leave the club, but only if Real meet their asking price of £100million. That would make him Real’s club-record signing and the Spanish giants are prepared to pay up despite Hazard’s contract expiring in little over a years’ time.
Real have already prepared a bumper contract offer for Hazard worth an astonishing £400,000-a-week after tax – something Chelsea are simply unable to match. The deal will also see him earn around £15m in bonuses, while the Spanish club have already started looking for a luxury house to help him settle in immediately.
Although Chelsea would love to keep Hazard, they know they must cash in now or risk losing him for nothing in the summer.
Hazard has enjoyed arguably his best Premier League campaign to date this season despite Chelsea’s struggles, scoring 16 goals and laying on 13 assists, and has made it clear he does not want any transfer distractions until he has guided the side to as high a finish as possible.
