Metro: Chelsea have been left fuming with Inter Milan after the Italian club pulled out of a deal to sign Olivier Giroud earlier this week. The Frenchman is desperate to leave Chelsea before Friday’s transfer deadline and he looked set for the San Siro, with Inter agreeing a fee with the Blues for the 33-year-old. However, Inter have picked up Christian Eriksen, Ashley Young and Victor Moses this month and changed their mind on the veteran striker.
Get French Football News report that Chelsea are furious with Inter for messing them and the player around, deeming their conduct to be unprofessional.
Giroud has made just five Premier League appearances for the Blues this season, starting only twice and is pushing for a move away ahead of this summer’s Euro 2020. The forward has been told by France manager Didier Deschamps that he will need to be playing regularly to warrant a place in the national team and Giroud is desperate to do just that. Tottenham have registered an interest in taking the striker across London as cover for the injured Harry Kane, but are yet to submit a formal bid for his services.
Giroud is believed to favour the switch to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, remaining in London where he has lived since he signed for Arsenal in 2012. However, Chelsea are not overly convinced that they want to let him move to a competitor for the top four in the Premier League. Lazio are also interested in signing him, but a move to the Italian capital may not give him the playing time he is looking for, with Ciro Immobile first choice up front for Simone Inzaghi’s side.
The World Cup winner has been linked with a number of other clubs ranging from Crystal Palace to Barcelona, with neither end of that scale appearing very likely.
