latintimes: Nipsey Hussle’s mother, Angelique Smith, addressed all the 21,000 mourners present during her son’s memorial service on Thursday and revealed that she felt that her son’s death was coming days before his actual murder. During the service, Smith also revealed Hussle’s final texts to her one day before his death.
Smith recalled texting Emias, Hussle’s real name, on March 30. “My heart feels as if there’s possibly heaviness in your heart and soul,” she said in her text. “No mom, I’m A-1,” Hussle replied.
According to Smith, that’s how Hussle would always respond whenever she would ask her how he was. “That’s what he would always tell me,” she said. “Ever since he was a boy, pain did not faze him. He took it like a champ,” she added.
Smith revealed that Hussle followed up his previous message with another text, telling his mom about how excited he was to be working back again. “I’m grateful I have a studio again,” he texted Smith. “I’m just happy and ready to work.” These were his final texts to his mom before he died. In her eulogy, Smith told the mourners how proud she was of her son, calling Hussle “a great man.”
Before Smith’s address, Rihanna also shared her own heartbreaking moment with Hussle. The singer revealed that before his death, she and Hussle were talking about their plans to record a collaboration. This was supported by hip hop producer Hitmaka, who posted on Instagram a screenshot of his messages with Hussle days before his death.
In their conversation, the producer and the late rapper agreed to work on a new music titled “On My Mind,” with Rihanna. “If this was U and Rihanna. Hot 100 # 1,” Hitmaka told Hussle. “I just did that last night.”
“We gotta get Rihanna then. Ima work on this one. This a Go!” Hussle replied. Now, fans are urging Rihanna to continue recording the track and adding a guest verse in honor of Hussle.
Hussle died on March 31 at the age of 33 after being gunned down in Los Angeles. His killer was caught days after his death.
