metro: Mario Balotelli was wearing his own customised Marcus Rashford shirt to troll Paris Saint-Germain with if he happened to score during Marseille’s trip to the Parc des Princes. Sadly for Balotelli and the rest of the footballing world, he failed to find the net as Marseille were defeated 3-1 and the Italian striker-turned-prankster was substituted midway through the second half. Bit awkward. Rashford, as if you needed reminding, scored a decisive last-gasp penalty as Manchester United completed the most unlikely of comebacks to dump PSG out of the Champions League earlier this month.
despite the fact he played for Manchester City, Balotelli clearly had no problem donning Rashford’s face underneath his Marseille jersey on Sunday evening. According to Canal+, Balotelli would have unveiled the T-shirt in celebration had he netted in the French capital.
Kylian Mbappe opened the scoring for PSG before Valere Germain gave Marseille a glimmer of hope just after half-time. However, a quickfire double from Angel di Maria put Thomas Tuchel’s men out of sight. Di Maria was desperate to complete his hat-trick as referee Antony Gautier awarded PSG a penalty at the death but Mbappe refused to hand over the ball and missed from the spot.
Marseille had goalkeeper Steve Mandanda sent off shortly before Di Maria’s second goal and Rudi Garcia’s ten-man side were unable to claw themselves back into the game. PSG’s victory meant they extended their lead at the top of Ligue 1 to 20 points. Tuchel’s also have a game in hand over second-placed Lille.
