metro: Angel Di Maria is so scarred from his short time Manchester United that he has to turn over the channel when they appear on television.
That’s according to his Paris Saint-Germain team-mate Marcin Bulka. The 32-year-old completed a move from Real Madrid to United for a then British record of £59.7million back in 2014 and his Old Trafford career got off to a promising start with a goal and assist in three of his first four appearances.
However, Di Maria joined PSG the following summer after failing to live up to his hefty price tag and the Argentinian is now regarded as one of the worst signings in United’s history.
Di Maria has now settled in the French capital, scoring 81 goals in 215 games for the Ligue 1 champions, but it’s clear he still has nightmares about his disastrous one-year spell with the Red Devils. Young PSG goalkeeper Bulka told Polish YouTube channel Foot Truck. ‘Di Maria hates Manchester United,’ ‘He has no good memory of the time he spent there. ‘In fact, when something related to Manchester United appears on television, the channel quickly changes.’
Di Maria last year blamed ‘complications’ with Louis van Gaal for his struggles at Old Trafford. But the former United head coach hit back and insisted the Argentina international simply could not cope with the demands of Premier League football. ‘Di Maria says it was my problem. I played him in every attacking position. You can check that,’ Van Gaal told BBC Sport. ‘He never convinced me in any of those positions. He could not deal with the continuous pressure on the ball in the Premier League. That was his problem.
‘I brought [Bastian] Schweinsteiger in because we needed a captain on the pitch. He didn’t do it. He was injured. He had an excuse. ‘I wanted a first-class striker.
‘I don’t want to go through all the names but when you can’t have the first or second choice, you have to be happy with the fourth or fifth, so [Radamel] Falcao came into the picture but we knew in advance he was injured. ‘That is why I said we should take him on loan.’
